Incumbents Apparently Re-Elected
Posted April 13, 2011

MONROVIA- Monrovia Mayor Mary Ann Lutz and Councilmembers Becky Shevlin and Tom Adams all seem headed toward re-election in Tuesday's municipal balloting.

In the next few days, City Clerk Alice Atkins will finish the official canvass of the votes, which will include the count of a few provisional ballots and late-delivered absentee ballots. The number of ballots still to be counted is not enough to change the result of any race.

Voter turnout in the municipal election was among the lowest in memory. Just 13.6% of Monrovia's registered voters cast ballots.
Lutz ran unopposed for a second two-year term as Mayor. She received 2,295 votes out of the 2,682 ballots cast.
Adams and Shevlin were challenged for new four-year terms by Chris Ziegler, Joe Espinosa and Jason Cosylion. Shevlin received 1,936 votes; Adams, 1,615; Ziegler, 785; Espinosa, 383 and Cosylion, 132.
Of the 2,682 voters, 1,698 voted by mail, with just 984 Monrovians going to the polls to vote on Tuesday.
The returning Mayor and Councilmembers will be sworn in at the May 3 City Council meeting.
