Community Development's "Over the Counter"

A Few More Monrovians

This week, the California Department of Finance (DOF) released their annual population projections for cities and counties.  As of January 1, 2012, Monrovia's official population estimate is 36,727.  This is a 0.2% increase over 2011.  Interestingly, this is still lower than Monrovia's population in 2000 which according to that Census was 36,929.

Los Angeles County's population increased to 9,884,632 (+0.4%) and California has 37,628,563 residents (+0.7%).

DOF uses many different methods to create their projections.  If you are into demographics like us, then you can view the full statewide report here.

OK, so some of us really like this stuff, here's one of our favorite reports.

Development Spotlight

212-216 West Olive Avenue

Last month, the City Council approved the development of a 4-unit, Planned Unit Development (PUD) at 212 and 216 West Olive Avenue.  What is unique about this proposal is that it will incorporate the existing 80 year old house into the development.  They are currently in the building plan check process and the developer will probably break ground in early summer.  To read more and see pictures development, click here to go to the Development Spotlight page.
