City Manager's Update | COVID-19 Update | May 21, 2020

Post Date:05/21/2020 11:55 AM

Hello Monrovians,

We are heading into the second weekend where more businesses will be reopening their doors to offer curb-side service. As more people are leaving their homes, the risk of COVID-19 remains high for those most vulnerable, potentially resulting in additional cases of serious illness or death.

Even though we're moving forward on the Road to Recovery, remember to to do your part and wear a cloth face covering in businesses and around others, maintain physical distancing, avoid large gatherings and wash your hands.

Sincerely,
Dylan

Guidelines to Follow When Visiting Monrovia Canyon Park

In order to keep in compliance with the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health’s Public Trails Protocol, the following guidelines have been put into place to ensure the health and safety of visitors and staff.

  1. Follow all posted regulations at trailheads and throughout the park.
  2. Please do not enter the park or access the trails if feeling sick, have a fever, cough and/or exhibiting any symptoms of illness.
  3. Keep six (6) feet of physical distance from others at all times.
  4. Avoid areas where physical distancing cannot be maintained.
  5. Do not gather in groups or linger at any one location except as needed for brief rests.
  6. Everyone needs a face covering at the trailhead/parking lots and on any trails where there are other groups of people nearby. Infants and children under the age of 2 should not wear cloth face coverings. Those between the ages of 2 and 8 should use them but under adult supervision to ensure that the child can breathe safely and avoid choking or suffocation.  Children with breathing problems should not wear a face covering.
  7. Pack out all trash.
  8. Respect the Trail Monitors.
  9. Please adhere to posted trail directions. Some trails have been modified as one-way loops to support proper physical distancing.

Monrovia Canyon Park to Open on Tuesday, May 26th. Reserve your spot!

Monrovia Canyon Park will reopen to the public on Tuesday, May 26th. All park visitors must have a reservation to access the trails in Canyon Park. We will be using our web-based reservation system, RecPro, whereby all visitors, including walk-ins, must make an online reservation. The new reservation system helps ensure a limited number of visitors (both residents and non-residents) have the opportunity to enjoy Canyon Park and prevent large crowds. We have limited the reservations to 70, all visitors looking to enter the park must have a registration, and this would include vehicles, bikers and walkers. The City charges a $5 parking fee to be paid when visitors arrive at Canyon Park. Walk-ins must also register but are not required to pay the parking fee.
