The Mission of the Monrovia Public Library Foundation is to raise funds to supplement public funding of the Library in order to ensure our Library can serve as an indispensable source of information, educational, cultural and technical opportunities in a user friendly state of the art facility.
What the Foundation Funds:
Technology and Infrastructure
MPLF funds capital improvements to the Monrovia Public Library, including the replacement of all of the public-use computers in the Library at the end of 2016. The Foundation's generous support ensures that no computers are more than 3 years old. Printers for patrons’ use in the children’s library were a Foundation purchase as well.
The Foundation funds Literacy Services, which provides one-to-one and group tutoring. A dedicated group of volunteers meets with learners 2-3 times per week. The program emphasizes building upon basic literacy skills such as reading, writing, and speaking English, computer skills, and health and financial literacy. To fund this important program, the Foundation hosts an annual literacy fundraiser, Team Up! Dream Up! For Literacy! with proceeds going to Literacy Services.
Summer Reading Program
Each year, the Foundation makes a generous donation to support the Library's annual Summer Reading Program. The Summer Reading Program provides kids, teens, and adults fun programs and activities all summer long, instilling a love of reading that will last a lifetime.
"Sunday Drive" an art installation in the Library was funded by the Foundation in March 2016.
