E- Waste Recycling Self- Service Drop Off Program

The Public Works Yard (600 S. Mountain Avenue) has a designated fenced location for residents to discard the following accepted items:

  • Batteries
  • Cellular Phones
  • Computers
  • Copiers
  • DVD Players
  • Fax Machines
  • Fluorescent Light Bulbs
  • Hard Drives
  • Microwaves
  • Monitors
  • Stereos
  • Televisions
  • VCR’s

Please place all items in designated bins and please do not dump general trash items.

Pursuant to the Monrovia Municipal Code (MMC), no person other than the commercial/industrial customer where a solid waste or recyclables container is placed for collection, or the authorized collector, or an owner or employee of either, shall tamper with or remove materials from such containers. Nothing in this section shall prevent a permitted recycler from collecting recyclables only from his or her container placed for collection as authorized by the commercial/industrial customer.

FREE Collection of HHW and E-Waste

Throughout Los Angeles County on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. both Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) and electronic waste (e-waste) are collected at various locations. To participate, residents may gather their HHW or e-waste and bring it to any of the round-ups or permanent collection centers.

Bring fluorescent bulbs, used motor oil, used oil filters, anti-freeze, paint, paint thinner, turpentine, cleaners with acids or lye, pesticides, herbicides, household batteries and car batteries.

Please DO NOT bring: explosives, ammunition, radioactive materials or waste from businesses.

How to Prepare: Do not mix products together. Place them in a sturdy box, preferably in their original, labeled containers. Limit of 15 gallons or 125 pounds per vehicle. Be prepared to leave your containers.

Reduce Household Hazardous Wastes by purchasing only products you really need. Use up products you already have at home. Make an effort to purchase products that are water-based, less hazardous and are non-toxic.

Oil Recycling Tips:

  • Pick up a used oil kit from either City Hall or the Public Works Department.
  • Never mix other fluids with the used motor oil. Contaminated oil will not be accepted. 
  • Always leave used motor oil with an attendant.
  • NEVER leave used motor oil after business hours!
  • DO NOT dump used motor oil down storm water drains. It is illegal to dispose of motor oil or other pollutants down a stormdrain.
  • Recycle your used motor oil filters at the Certified Collection Centers (where available).
