On behalf of the City of Monrovia, welcome to the NEW Youth Sports Program featuring Basketball and Cheerleading! We are excited to offer this opportunity to develop skills that promote physical activity and teamwork in a fun, supportive environment. Please review the packet thoroughly. Open to 4th and 5th graders.
Registration will begin on August 27, 2018 at 8:00 a.m. online and at the Monrovia Community Center (119 W. Palm Ave.). Registration fee includes a game uniform for Basketball participants and a game shirt for Cheer participants. There will also be medals presented to the first and second place Basketball team winners and certificates for all those who participate.
Sample shirt / uniform sizes will be available at the Monrovia Community Center to ensure accurate sizing. An additional game shirt/ uniform can be purchased separately.
- Resident and/or MUSD Student - $35.00
- Non-Resident - $40.00
- Basketball & Cheer: All teams will practice on Tuesday and Thursday from 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at Julian Fisher Park (915 S. California Ave. Monrovia, CA 91016).
- Basketball - The season will consist of a minimum of 6 games. Playoffs may extend the season by 2 weeks.
- Cheer - During the 6 week season and 2 weeks of Playoffs, teams will cheer at 1 game per weekend.
The Meet & Greet Event, practices, and games will be held at Julian Fisher Park (915 S. California Avenue, Monrovia, CA 91016).
If we experience inclement weather on game days, games will be played at the Mary Wilcox Youth Center (843 E. Olive Avenue, Monrovia, CA 91016). Coaches will inform families of this prior to the game.
There will be no make-ups for practice due to inclement weather.
City staff will take a balanced approach when placing participants on teams to ensure each team has an even amount of 4th and 5th graders.
Meet and Greet:
The Meet and Greet will be held on Monday, September 17, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at Julian Fisher Park (915 S. California Ave. Monrovia, CA 91016).
During the Meet and Greet, participants will have the opportunity to meet their coach and other teammates. There will be no practice following this event.
Opening Ceremonies and Picture Day:
An Opening Day Ceremony will be held on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at 8:30 a.m. before the first scheduled game of the season. Following the ceremony, from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. team photos will be taken and participants will have the opportunity to purchase individual or group pictures.
Opening day games will start at the following times:
- Game 1 - 10:00 a.m.
- Game 2 - 11:00 a.m.
- Game 3 - 12:00 p.m.
Starting September 18 - November 15, 2018, practices will be held:
- Every Tuesday and Thursday from 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Please note: practice and game schedules will be distributed at the Meet and Greet Event.
Starting September 29, 2018, games will be held every Saturday at one of the following times:
- Game 1 - 8:00 a.m.
- Game 2 - 9:00 a.m.
- Game 3 - 10:00 a.m.
The intent of the youth sports program is to encourage parent/guardian participation, therefore transportation to and from practices and games is not included.
However, if transportation becomes a barrier from allowing your child(ren) to participate in the program, please call the Monrovia Community Center at (626) 256-8246.
The Awards Ceremony will be held immediately following the Championship Game on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at 9:00 a.m.
